Federal funding cuts directed by the Trump Administration are impacting organizations nationwide, including health agencies in Indiana. WRTV talked to an organization worried about how the cuts might impact their statewide efforts to get vaccination rates up. For years, the Indiana Immunization Coalition has provided health care for Hoosiers, including free immunizations, with the help of federal funds they’ve received since the pandemic.

The first ever National Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) conference wrapped up Thursday in Indianapolis. The event sold out with over 400 in attendance. Patients, researchers, clinicians, insurers, community organizers, students, educators and pharmaceutical professionals all convened this week, hoping to find answers and collaborative partners in the fight towards prevention and treatment of HPV.

There are more than 700 cases of measles in the United States this year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including six connected cases in Indiana. Local health officials are doing what they can to stop the outbreak before it gets worse. “It’s a tragedy. We don’t need to see measles outbreaks in the year 2025. It was eradicated in this country,” said Sara Dillard of the Indiana Immunization Coalition. “We currently have six in Indiana, and I’m worried that six will be a lot more soon.”

The Indiana Department of Health confirmed five new cases of measles Wednesday, April 9, bringing the statewide total to six. This comes as the state battles rising concerns over the disease. At a pop-up vaccine clinic at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, public health workers are there to ensure Hoosiers get the protection they need. The clinic isn’t just focused on measles, but offers a variety of vaccines to help strengthen the community’s immunity.
